In 1943 Carole co-starred the comedy The Powers Girl (also known as Hello Beautiful). She had the supporting role of Kay Evans, an aspiring model who must help her sister after she loses her job. 20th Century Fox loaned her to United Artists to make this movie. Carole replaced Joan Bennett who dropped out shortly before filming began. The cast includes Anne Shirley (who plays her sister), George Murphy, Benny Goodman, Dennis Day, and Peggy Lee. The Powers Girl was based on a book by modeling agent John Roberts Powers. It was directed by Norman Z. McLeod.
The movie was filmed at General Service Studios in Los Angeles from August until October of 1942. Gilbert Adrian designed the glamorous costumes. Carole received third billing and was unhappy with her lightweight role. The Powers Girl was released on January 15, 1943. It got good reviews and became a box office hit earning more than one million dollars. Although she didn't like the film critics praised Carole's performance saying she was "luminous and believable."
