In 1946 Carole starred in the low budget comedy It Shouldn't Happen To A Dog. She plays Julia Andrews, a detective who solves crimes with the help of her pet Doberman. This was the last film she made while under contract at 20th Century Fox. Carole didn't like the script but she agreed to make the film to fulfill her contract. It was filmed in Hollywood during February and March of 1946. The cast includes Allyn Joslyn, Henry Morgan, Jean Wallace, and Rodney the dog. She and Allyn Joslyn had worked together before in I Wake Up Screaming. It Shouldn't Happen To A Dog was directed by Herbert I. Leeds. The movie was released on August 26, 1946. It got mostly bad reviews and was not a hit.
