In 1942 Carole starred in the comedy It Happened In Flatbush. She played Kathryn Baker, a socialite who inherits a Brooklyn baseball team. Carole was under contact at 20th Century Fox when she made this movie. This would be her third time working with director Ray McCarey. Production began in February of 1942 and ended on March 26. Several scenes were filmed at Gilmore baseball field in Los Angeles. The cast includes Lloyd Nolan, William Frawley, and Sara Algood. She and Lloyd Nolan also co-starred together in Manila Calling. Carole went back to her natural brown hair color for this role. Although her character doesn't like baseball she actually loved the game. Her costumes were designed by Herschel. It Happened In Flatbush was made as a low budget B-movie. The original title was Them Lovely Bums. It was released on May 28, 1942. The film got mixed reviews and some critics said that Carole lacked chemistry with Lloyd Nolan.
